JailBot

About JailBot

Well, it all started one day when I saw people talking about Winbot in Starcraft, I thought they were meaning "Win" as in Windows, not "Win" as in win, so me of course was thinking about bots and decided that when I get my PC, I'll make a bot for Battle.net.

Later in the week, I found StealthBot and FooLOps, I wanted to try these out but noticed they were exe's (Windows), not Macintosh. So I was then on the search for a Macintosh bot, I found MacBattleChat and it served well, but I wanted a better bot, one that didn't have the Chat-icon (Telnet), and could enter other channels then just public ones.

After that, I found out about KaneBot, my brother's binary-bot, it was made for a Mac on a Mac, I never got it to work (I later found out it was out of date and my brother never updated it).

So now I am on a Macintosh with no bot. Hmmmm, so I got the idea to make my own bot, so I started with the Telnet (Chat-icon) protocol, I got pretty far into it, but afterwards Blizzard removed Telnet from Battle.net for quote, "There are too many bots on Battle.net, hopefully this will help stop that.", end-quote. So now I was bummed, I had no experience in networking at the time and I had just barely got a working bot that was now permanently out of date.

So now I knew that I had to wait until I got a PC so I could use StealthBot or FooLOps, well when I got my PC, FooLOps was way out of date and StealthBot needed about 3-4 patches before it worked. About a year after that, I found some Battle.net documentation, it held everything from sending packets to Battle.net to making a bot work on Battle.net.

Now, I found those documentation, but I didn't know where to start making my bot. So I went to Valhalla Legends hoping they'll know where to start making a bot, shortly after that I hit a dead-end.

So in the beginning of 2008, I started making my bot, starting with the UI (User Interface), settings dialog, etc., after I got the UI up and running, I started converting from the Visual Basic documentation to my compiler (REALbasic).

Now JailBot is in development, by me! I hope that explains how JailBot got started. As one person's forum signature said, making a bot takes a great deal of skill, but using one takes almost none.
